Angels Don’t Wear Shoes

Ex-votos and objects held in touch and devotion create a magical aura. In this series of religious medals lost by pilgrims on the route to Santiago de Compostela, they glow with renewed holiness. In the same way that many cultures preserve both Christian and local religions, interpretations may vary. The title Angels don’t wear shoes is inspired by the Council of Trente’s decisions to censure nudity in paintings commissioned the church as well as the important proclamations that angels would neither have sex nor wear shoes.
